Vigilante groups: Asiedu Nketia endorses NDC’s ‘Hawks’, ‘Dragons’ (Hot Audio)

The General Secretary for the opposition National Democratic Party (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has endorsed and encouraged the emergence of vigilante groups in his party, saying, it is a way of protecting their members from the brutalities by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) vigilante groups.

Asiedu Nketia said NDC has lost confidence in the security forces in the country and the current government inability to control its vigilante groups’ brutalities melted to the public, has called for the formation of these groups to protect themselves.

Vigilante groups such as the ‘Hawks’, ‘Dragons’, ‘Lions’, made up of heavily built men, have emerged from the NDC party, who were displayed across the country during their just ended Regional Delegates Congress.

Otecfmghana.com sources say the groups used the regional delegates’ congress as preparatory grounds ahead of 2020 general elections.

The ruling NPP government has groups such as Kandahar, Delta Force and Invisible Force who have taken turns to seize NHIS offices, public toilets, toll booths, beaten public officers and recently, the chasing out of the CEO of Tamale Teaching Hospital in the Northern region, from office.

In an interview with otecfmghana.com, on Wednesday, September 5, 2018, General Mosquito, as he is affectionately called, said “the vigilated groups started within the NPP before the 2016 general elections, with the excuse of not having the trust in the security forces. When they won power we thought they will disband them but these groups took the power into their hands attacked the NDC members and even their own NPP member, a situation we thought the president could control them but rather supported”.

“We have lost confidence in the security forces in the country, been controlled by the government. We cannot sit down for their vigilante groups to terrorize our members, beat and killed us goats, no, we won’t allow us. If the president, been the Commander in chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, cannot disband its groups, how can we also disband ours, when there is a general elections ahead of us in 2020,” he added in furious mood.
