2 killed after truck run into parked truck at Tech junction

Two people died in Kumasi on Saturday dawn when their vehicle run into a parked truck at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) junction.

The articulated truck loaded with goods had developed a fault and had been parked on the highway.

Eyewitnesses said the saloon vehicle, an Opel Astra with registration number GT 5216 T run into it at the outskirts of the Kumasi Metropolitan Area.

The articulated truck driver’s assistant, who has been identified only as Kofi explained that they parked on Friday evening after they contracted a mechanic to fix the fault for them.

He said he was on the spot directing traffic throughout the night until he decided to rest when the traffic slowed down but was later called by another accident after the Opel run into the back of the truck.

One of the two occupants was pronounced dead at the nearby KNUST Hospital whilst the other who was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) was also pronounced dead on arrival.
