Boxing Day: Otec FM puts smile on children and widows in Kumasi

A Kumasi-based commercial radio station OTEC FM, under the auspices ‘Yendidi’ initiative on “Boxing day” December 26, 2018, provided food to some less privileged children, widows as well as people marginalized in society in the streets of Kumasi in the Ashanti region.
Over three thousand good food and drinks were given out as part of the Organisation’s objectives of feeding vulnerable children and also people marginalized in society.
In the spirit of the Christmas celebration, the Management of OTEC FM’ initiated a project dubbed ‘’Yendidi’’ aimed at raising funds for the purchase of food items exhibit their unflinching love and supports to those children in the streets, lunatics as well as the vulnerable.
The project on Wednesday December 26, 2018 distributed various gift items to more than 3000 streets children in the Kumasi metropolis and beyond.
Speaking to the Media, the Head of Marking Mr Ebenezer Amankwa, aka Obolo observed that the upkeep of kids is not solely the responsibility of parents but a collective community responsibility.
To this end, he called on individuals to support and care for street kids and orphans, who through no fault of theirs have lost their parents.
He said Christmas was a time for merry making as well as caring for the vulnerable and it was appropriate society reached out to the needy, especially street kids, adding that, “It should not only be at Christmas times but a normal exercise for the children to know the warmth of family and have a sense of belonging.”
According to him, there have been sacrilegious attempts to obliterate and desecrate the history behind Christmas which is reaching out the poor as Jesus Christ ordained Christendom to emulate.
Mr Ebenezer Amankwa who is also a lecturer at Christian University in Kumasi, therefore, admonished Ghanaians to show compassion to the needy and the poor as Jesus did to mankind.
Mr Amankwa said: “We are not only going to stick to the street kids, but we are going to look out for orphanages and deserted people across the region to reach out to.”
Mr Amankwa expressed their appreciation to their numerous listening audiences for swift donation toward the project.
