The Association of NPP identifiable groups in the Kumasi Central market over the weekend held a massive cleanup exercise at Central Business District (CBD)  and some parts of the metropolis as part of their social responsibilities and support to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to restore cleanliness and beautification of the Garden City of Africa.

The exercise received high attendance from several market women and other participants from the various pro NPP identifiable groups at the Kumasi Central market.

Places like the main central market to Asafo interchange road and gutters were cleaned as  well as other choked gutters within the CDB.

Speaking in an interview with OTEC news, chairman for the group, Mr. John Sarpong said the group is much interested in the sanitation and of the various markets as that is their place of operating and therefore must to take chances.

He says the Association will from hence adopt this strategy of cleaning the CDB from time to time to support the KMA in bringing back the Garden City status back to Kumasi.

Spokesperson for the Association, Ebenezer Amaniampong A.K.A Abena Kwabena called on other Associations and pro political groups to emulate their strategy to support the KMA develop the Kumasi city. He said even though it is the mandate of the KMA to clean streets and market places within the city, traders and businessmen with the CDB must support them else they will be fighting a lost battle.

We stay in the market for long period and this is where we make our living so why must we wait for someone to clean up the mess we have created” he quizzed.

Mr. Amamiampong again called on the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to continue assisting them with logistics in times of such exercise to enhance the work. He however calls for a bylaw which will bound people and shop owners from opening their shops during the monthly Saturday clean up exercises.
