One dead, two missing after attacks by unknown gunmen at Abrewanko
One person has been confirmed dead and two other persons are missing after some unknown gunmen invaded Abrewanko near Agogo in the Asante Akyem North District of the Ashanti Region and allegedly engaged in sporadic shootings.
Ashanti Akyem Agogo Police Commander, DSP James Ameka who confirmed the incident to otec news added that two persons have been hospitalized and admitted to the hospital responding to treatment.
“Currently two persons were shot and are responding to treatment at the hospital, three people were treated and discharged, so far, 76year old man has died after he was shot on his neck in a bush at Nso-Nyameye one of the near-by villages whiles two others are missing” DSP Ameka stated.
According to him, the cause of the incident is not immediate known but they suspect that is as a result of the 35-year-old security man with Scanfarm Company Limited at Agogo believed to a native of Konkomba who was on Saturday January 12, 2018 was shot dead by a suspected Fulani herdsmen.
He explained that after Scanfarm Company Limited was shot dead, the Konkombas attacked the Fulani Herdsmen resulted to death of 10 Fulani Herdsmen so he suspects that the Fulani Herdsmen want to retaliate.
The about seven gunmen believed to be herdsmen also burnt huts and bolted with two motorbikes from the area.
Personnel from the Operation Cowleg team were deployed to the area at about 5 pm on Wednesday to maintain order.
Police and military personnel have since been stationed at the village which is currently deserted.
DSP James Ameka said the police and joint military team have beef up security and there urged the residents who have fled from the community to return and go about their normal activities.
