“There is no breast cancer vaccine” – Dr. Wiafe Addai warns

The President of Breast Care International (BCI) Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai has advised Ghanaians to disregard rumours that there is breast cancer vaccine that helps to fight breast cancer cells in the body, but rather, to report to the hospital when they find anything unusual in their breasts.

According to her the breast cancer vaccine is in its clinical test state in some selected health facilities in the USA and cannot be accepted conventionally to the fight against the breast cancer cells in the human body so they should not allow themselves to be vaccinated by any drug.

“The breast cancer vaccine research test started ten years ago in the USA and Europe, and up till now, no headways have been found. The vaccine is not conventionally accepted the World Health Organization (WHO) as it is in a clinical test state, so please do not allow yourself to be vaccinated by any drug to fight the disease. It can even cause harm to your body,” she warned.

Dr Wiafe Addai, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Peace and Love Hospitals in Kumasi and Accra, was making his her submission to Otec news’ Ebenezer Amankwah, on recent media reports that seem to suggest the availability of breast cancer vaccine on the market to prevent the disease.

Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai is an Executive Member of International Breast Cancer and Nutrition (IBCN), Council Member of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) and African Organization for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC), and a member of the Medical Advisory Board of Direct Relief in the USA.

She has 24 years of experience as a Medical officer in Ghana; thus from 1989 to date, and has been a Breast Surgeon for the past twelve years and a consultant in Breast Cancer Management.

The breast cancer campaigner advised that the best way to prevent the disease is to visit the hospital for regular checkups in the breasts for early detection and prompt treatment.

“The disease is curable if detected early so the women should not stay at home until it gets out of hand. They should make their breasts available for screening, even if the breast has to be taken off, we will do it so that the person can live the full life God has given to the person, there is no fear in that,” she advised.

She warned that, though the cause of the disease is yet to be known, she touched on risk factors that make every woman prone to the disease.

“Once you a woman, you at risk to get the disease, though some men also contracted the disease, another risk factor is that it was hereditary, and added that if a woman in a family had been diagnosed with breast cancer, then the rest were at risk and must be careful. Women should also avoid certain lifestyles like taking of alcoholic drinks, smoking cigarette and eating fatty foods,” she said.
