Kumasi: Bawku youth threaten reprisals over torched kinsman

The Bawku Youth Association in Kumasi is threatening revenge over the lynching of one of their own, Shaban Abdul Wahab, who was set ablaze by some residents of Achiase-Amoam in the Ashanti Region.

The youth said Shaban was killed through mob justice but the police have only arrested two suspects irrespective of the assurances that more people will be arrested.

The 26-year-old was killed on suspicion of being an armed robber.
He was killed on Thursday, 20 June 2019 after Nana Kusi Baabu II, the chief of the community, saw him in his palace.

The chief is said to have questioned the now-deceased, fired warning shots and raised an alarm that the intruder was an armed robber – unbeknownst to the traditional leader and the residents that Shaban was suffering from hay fever.
His remains were deposited at the Juaben hospital morgue by the Ejisu police.
The police arrested the chief and one Akwasi Adu later.
They were hauled before the Ejisu Magistrate court and have been remanded to reappear on 10 July 2019.
Addressing a press conference jointly organised by the Association and the family of the deceased on Sunday, 30 June 2019, the group and family called on the police to expand their investigations and arrest more suspects and bring them to book since they do not want to take the law into their own hands.
Mohammed Mumuni Zakaria, a leader of the youth group who doubles as the spokesperson for the bereaved family, pleaded with the government, the Asantehene and other stakeholders to intervene in finding justice for the deceased.
He indicated that the remains of Shaban will not be buried until justice is served.
Baba Buhari Kabori, the father of the deceased, wants the law to deal drastically with the chief of the community.
