May 9th stadium disaster: We should learn from our mistakes-Kotoko General Manager tells football fans

General Manager of Asante Kotoko, Nana Gyambibi Coker has advised football-loving fans to control and comport themselves to avoid another stadium disaster.

On this day 9 May 2001(Exactly 19 years ago), 127 Ghanian football fans died in a stampede caused by the firing of teargas by police following a decision by the referee in a crucial match between arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

Speaking on Kumasi based OTEC Fm’s Royal sports on Friday May 8. 2020, General Manager of Asante Kotoko, Nana Gyambibi Coker implored football enthusiasts to comport themselves at match venues in order to avoid another stadium disaster.

“We should remember the past, advice, and control ourselves to prevent such incidents from happening again. A decision from a referee shouldn’t enhance us to repeat what happened in the past.” Nana Coker told OTEC Fm

“We will always remember the souls that perished during that unfortunate incidents” He added
