Ashanti Region to get massive road projects – Roads Minister assures

The Minister of Roads and Highways Hon Kwasi Amoako Atta has revealed that the Ashanti Region is going get massive road projects in the second term of president Akuffo Addo’s government.

According to him the Region is on top of government’s agenda in terms of roads construction.

In a press conference in Kumasi on Wednesday March 17, 2021, the minister disclosed that government have awarded 214 contracts on road projects in the Ashanti Region which covers 25 percent of road infrastructure in the region.

Giving detailed statistics on roads, Hon Amoako Atta noted that out of the total 9700 killomtres of roads in the Region, 2400 killomtres are currently under construction with another 5500 killomtres under routine and periodic maintenance

He added that the current government planned to build 277 killomtres of asphaltic roads in the Ashanti Region in it’s first four years, but only managed to completed 174 killomtres.

Construction of Five Interchanges

Hon Kwasi Amoako Atta, has also said the government is set to build five new standard interchanges in Kumasi to drastically reduce vehicular traffic in the Ashanti regional capital.

The project according to the minister will take place at Suame Roundabout, Anloga junction (Oforikrom), Bekwai roundabout, Ahodwo Roundabout,Santaasi Roundabout.

Hon Amoako Atta disclosed, the technical team from the ministry is almost done with a primary feasibility study into four of the projects, adding that financial arrangement for Suame project has been completed.
