A/R: Church of Pentecost construct ultra modern prison camp at Ejura (Photos)

The Church of Pentecost on Tuesday 11th May,2021 handed over a 300 bed capacity prison facility to the Ghana Prisons Service at a brief ceremony at Ejura Nkwanta in the in the Ejura-Sekyedumse Municipality in the Ashanti Region.


A sod was cut for the start of the project by the church in July 2019 and it has now been completed and handed over to the Prisons Service. The 300-capacity prison has facilities such as vocational and technical training workshop, recreational centre, a Church building, baptistry.

The 300-bed capacity holding facility which which was constructed at the cost of over three million Ghana Cedis is cited on a 640 hectares of land which was donated to the Ghana Prisons Service by the Ejurahene Barima Osei Hwedie II.

The facility, which forms part of the implementation of Vision 2023 ‘Transformational agenda’ of The Church of Pentecost, will house an administration block, dormitories, kitchen, and football field, among others for both the Prisoners and the Prison officers.

Addressing the gathering on Tuesday 11th May,2021, the Ejurahene Barima Osei Hwedie II applauded the the chairman of the Church of Pentecost Apostle Eric Nyamekye and the Interior Minister Hon Ambrose Derry for ensuring that the project was completed on time.

He added that the 640 hectares of land which was given out freely was in support of the governments agender to decongest choked prison facilities in the country.

He pledged to support the government and Ejura community by way of providing land and any other resources needed for developmental projects.
Interior Minister’s happiness
The Interior Minister Hon Ambrose Derry for his part stated that the project will go a long way to boost the operations of the Ghana Prisons Service.

He commended Ejurahene Barima Osei Hwedie II for giving a 640-acre land to the Ghana Prisons Service for the project and for agricultural purposes.

Hon Ambrose Derry Again express gratitude to the Chairman of the church of Pentecost Apostle Eric Nyamekye for the continuous to the prisons service, nothing that the new edifice is a solution to the age-long problem of overcrowding in prison facilities across the country.

“Let me emphasize that, this holding center will help deal with the issue of congestion in our prison centers and aslo increase productivity of the prison workforce “
The Church of Pentecost ‘Possessing the Nation’ vision
The Chairman of The Church of Pentecost Apostle Eric Nyamekye said Prison facilities must be a place of reformation and not solely punishment in dehumanizing environment hence the initiative by the Church.
He disclosed that the 300-capacity prison with auxiliary facilities such as vocational and technical training workshop, recreational centre, a Church building and Administration block was financed by the church at the cost of 3. 2 million Ghana Cedis.

“The Ejura Camp Prison has been long projected and it forms part of the Church’s Security Based Development Projects captured in its vision 2023 with an overarching theme: “Possessing the Nation”.he added.

Apostle Eric Nyamekye however urged the inmates to rid themselves off any wrong that others may have done to them and focus more on their reformation in order to fit well in society after they are done with their term.

The ultra modern edifice which is fully furnished also has a football pitch, state of the art washrooms, mechanized boreholes, offices, infirmary, kitchen, dinning hall among others.
