COVID-19 kills 344 in the Ashanti Region

Some 344 people have died either from or of the coronavirus pandemic in the Ashanti region.

The Regional Health Director, Dr Emmanuel Tenkorang, who spoke to the media, said the region recorded 392 new cases from July 20 to 14 August 2021.

He said the region has recorded 19,622 cases with 18,460 recoveries since the disease entered Ghana in mid-March 2020.

He said out of 818 active cases, 798 are being managed at home while 20 are on admission at the treatment centres.

Dr Tenkorang noted that out of the 20 who are on admission at the treatment centres, 12 are severe while four are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, some 11,000 people have been inoculated with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in the region.

Dr Tenkorang said the region received 50,400 Johnson & Johnson vaccines for the exercise in four districts.

He said the four districts marked as hotspots in the region include Kumasi Metropolis, Asokwa Municipal, Kwadaso Municipal and Oforikrom Municipal.

He said people who have already been vaccinated cannot participate in the Johnson & Johnson vaccination exercise.
