Industrial peace under my watch is unmatched – Akufo-Addo
President Nana Akufo-Addo has said “industrial peace” under his watch compared to previous government has been unmatched, stating that the minister responsible for employment and labour relations, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, has played a major role in maintaining stability on the labour front.
Addressing the Bono regional house of chiefs at the Jubilee House on Wednesday 18 May 2022, Akufo-Addo said the minister who hails from the Bono Region, has been excellent at ensuring the labour front of the country is peaceful.
“I don’t know which period in our history has enjoyed industrial peace like under my presidency. Yes, there has been worker agitation but those are inevitable. A careful look, however, shows that overall, industrial peace in Ghana under the period of my presidency has been unmatched,” Akufo-Addo said.
“It has largely been possible because of the minister responsible for employment and labour relations, [Ignatius Baffour-Awuah], who is ‘your royal’ from the Bono Region,” the told the chiefs, queen mothers and elders of the Bono Region.
“I thank you [the chiefs and elders of Bono Region] for giving me such a person to work with me as I govern the country,” President Akufo – Addo added.
Concerns of Bono Region
Presenting the concerns of the people of the Bono Region to the President, the Paramount Chief of Dormaa Traditional Area and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Osagyefo Oseadeyo Agyeman Badu II, noted that the people of Bono Region, are eternally grateful to the government for the introduction of “Free SHS” and the “One District, One Factory” policy of government.
On the construction of the Sunyani airport, the Paramount Chief commended the president for completing the yet-to-be commissioned “phase one” of the airport.
He requested that in good time, when the president commission’s the airport, he should also cut the sod for the construction of “phase two” of the project.
He identified several road networks in the Bono Region which are under construction but have largely slowed down.
