Trotro vehicles without unions should be banned from operating – PROTOA Chairman

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA), Mr. Joseph Mensah has stated that, drivers who have refused to join transport union should be prevented from plying on the roads in the metropolis.

According to Mr. Joseph Mensah, the action if checked will put a stop to what is locally called “waa-waa” means “fast-fast” and the “short-short” form of transporting passengers especially in the evening and early in the morning.

“The authorities in the Metropolis must decide that henceforth, either you join the union to be able to operate or you don’t operate at all,” he advised.

In an interview with the Kumasi based OTEC 102.9 FM’s “Nyansapo” show, on Friday, September 9, 2022, the PROTOA Chairman said, authorities should implement such law to bar those non-union drivers from the roads.

“We should prevent drivers who do not have any union from the roads. This will halt the unacceptable and illegal way of loading”, Mr. Mensah told the programme’s host Captain Koda.

He was quick to adding that, the prices of fuel at the pumps are too high and government should do something about it.

The PROTOA Chairman together with some panel members were discussing about the possible transport fares increment in the coming days on the show.
