“People who identify as LGBTQ have rights too” – Senior Journalist
Kwadwo Opoku Agyemang,
In the wake of fervent discourse in the media regarding the criminalization of adult consensual same-sex conduct, senior journalist Kwadwo Opoku Agyemang has expressed shock at why a group of people who are enjoying their rights without fear or persecution would want to enact laws to deny another group of people these same rights and freedoms. He described this as “wildly unreasonable, illogical, and inappropriate.”
Mr. Opoku Agyemang, a human rights advocate who has openly supported the LGBTQ community on several occasions, believes the issue is being treated unfairly.
He stated that people who identify as LGBTQ, the LGBTQ community, and their activities should be treated the same way as people who belong to various religious bodies. Mr. Opoku Agyemang pointed out that the latter have the freedom to join any religion of their choice, are not prevented from meeting at any given time, and are not banned from engaging in evangelism, outreach, and other activities. “So what’s the difference here?” he questioned.
The senior journalist has called on civil society organizations, human rights activists, and groups to relentlessly fight against this discrimination. He expressed concern that if this is allowed to continue, it might set a precedent for the implementation of this divisive act in other areas as well.
