Limited voters’ registration: Day one fraught with many challenges Ashanti Region

Day one of the Voter Registration Exercise by the Electoral Commission in parts of the Ashanti Region has been fraught with many challenges.

The exercise in some constituencies in the region halted for several hours as EC’s biometric machines failed to work due to poor connectivity.

Scores of people who gathered for the exercise at various centres in the region were frustrated.
Some party agents in an interview with OTEC News reporter, Jacob Agyenim Boateng, expressed worry over delays in getting registered by EC.

Mr Yaw Boateng, One of the party agents for the new Patriotic Party NPP at the Bantama Constituency spoke to OTEC News
“We have been here since morning monitoring the exercise, but the only problem we have encountered so far is delays in the exercise which has been caused by the biometric machines”.

“There are six centers here including registration centers for Old Tafo, Subin, Nhyieso, Manhyia South and Manhyia North, and all these centers are facing challenges “
“We must commend officials of the Electoral Commission because they are really shown commitment for the work, just that their machines were giving them tough time”
Some agents at the various centres however called on the EC to replace the machines of possible for smooth registration of voters.
