Sam Pyne Commends Subin Sub-metro Schools For Showing Interest in Quiz

The Mayor For Kumasi, Hon Samuel Pyne has commended schools within the Subin Sub-metro for showing interest in the just ended Inter-Schools quiz competition sponsored by Promasidor Ghana, Verna Mineral Water and the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly as well as others.
The competition brought together Ten (10) schools from the Sub-metro to compete in subjects such as Mathematics, Science, Social studies and English.
Speaking at the end of the final event which saw TI Amass ‘B’ winning with 77 points at the Prempeh Assembly Hall, Hon Pyne said the participating schools had shown great interest and excitement at the two day event.
‘’I have been thrilled by the show of enthusiasm and profuse interest by the ten participating schools and just as we plan to replicate same in the other sub-metros in Kumasi we are hopeful of similar interests so that we can infuse the idea of research into the students at their early stages in life’’, the Mayor stated.
Metro Director of Education:
Speaking at the two day event, Mr David Oppong, Kumasi Metro Director of Education called on students to study by themselves anytime they got the opportunity.
He noted that cultivating reading and learning attitudes get students to perform better academically rather than relying only on studies in class.
The Director commended the KMA and the Subin Sub-metro for agreeing to support the Quiz competition for the schools in the area.
‘’I am glad that we have a Mayor who loves education and is committed to supporting every initiative in that area and it is pleasing that we see the Sub-metro and other sponsors coming to show similar support to make the pupils undertake this useful exercise’, the Director stated.
Competition:
In the grand final event, four Junior High Schools namely St Peters R/C, Amakom Adventist, Station Basic and TI Ahmadiyya ‘B’ competed for the honors.
In the end, TI Ahmadiyya secured 77 points and took home 300 pieces of exercise books from the Kumasi Mayor, GHc3000.00 cash prize and other items from the sponsors as well as certificate of participation and glittering trophy..
In second place with 72 points was Station Basic School who had a cash prize of GHC 2000.00, 300 pieces of exercise books donated by the Mayor, products from the sponsors and certificate of participation.
Placing third was Amakom Adentist JHS who took home GHC 1000.00 cash prize, 300 pieces of exercise books by the Mayor, certificate of participation and products from the sponsors while the 4th placed school, St Peters took home 300 pieces of exercise books, certificate of participation and products from the sponsors.
Other Participating Schools:
Six other schools that participated in the quiz but failed to make it to the grand final were Amankwatia JHS, St Pauls RC, Adum Presby, St Cyprians, New Amakom JHS and Ahmadiyya JHS ‘A’.
