Kejetia traders yet to receive their individual electricity meters despite payments

Traders at the Kejetia Market in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region say they are yet to receive their individual electricity meters despite paying monies for the commodity
The traders who have for years been calling for the provision of separate meters observed that, they paid an agreed sum of monies to an account given to them by managers of the facility but have not received any meters to that effect.
Speaking to OTEC News Reporter Jacob Agyenim Boateng on Thursday February 22, 2024, the President of the Federation of Kumasi Traders Nana Akwasi Prempeh , said traders are growing increasingly worrying over the situation
“After series of meetings with the management of the facility, Public Utilities Regulator Authority (PURC), the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and other stakeholders, it was agreed that, traders who want single phase meters will pay GH¢2, 895 while three phase meter was pegged at GH¢3,900 “.
“When we raised concerns about the price, we were told the amount will cover both the meter and the installation cost, that notwithstanding, some of our members payed the money but are yet to get the meters”.
He noted that most of the traders at the Kejetia market have expressed their displeasure with the management of the facility describing their attitude lackadaisical in resolving individual metering issues at the market.
He noted that, after contact the facility’s management, they gave them assurance that installation of the meters will commence by first week of March 2024.
“During the last PURC review, but they say the management has been indecisive and slow to act.
