The former President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Kwesi Nyantakyi has expressed his readiness to contest in the Ejisu Constituency by-election if parliament declares the Ejisu seat vacant.
Kwesi Nyantakyi made the disclosure in an interview with Ghone News in Kumasi over the weekend during the inauguration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti regional campaign team for elections 2024.
He said although a date has not been set for the by-election, his final decision on contesting for the impending election will be made after the one-week funeral observation of the late MP who doubled as Finance minister.
He said “the Ejisu by-election will definitely come on but a timetable has not been published yet. So we don’t know those who want to contest. Since I come from there and I have the right to contest at the right time we will see what will happen. At the moment we are mourning the demise of a very illustrious son of the constituency. The demise of the MP is a big loss to the constituency. So let’s see what will happen after the one-week funeral observation. We will see if I have plans to contest or not but it is highly possible’’ he stressed.
He, however, admonished the party’s teaming supporters and leadership from the national to the grassroots level to approach elections 2024 with unity for purpose in order to achieve the party’s main target of breaking the 8.”
“In every human organization if you want to achieve any results that will arise from the collective efforts of the members and if you are not united you can’t achieve that. So anybody who has grievances must subject the grievances to the common interest of the party so that the party’s interest will reign supreme. Everybody must also pull his strengths and resources everything together so that we can achieve the collective goal of breaking the 8’’.
He further explained “even in football if we have the best players and they are not united they don’t give passes to each other, you cannot score. So unity is very important and I think we have to take a cue from that.’’
Kwesi Nyantakyi also admonished the party supporters to halt pushing the flagbearer of the party to announce his running mate as soon as possible.
