Silver Jubilee Education Day: Otumfuo Foundation’s GHC260,000 donation impacts Asanteman youth and scholars
The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation marked the Silver Jubilee of His Majesty with a significant contribution towards education, totalling GHC260,000 in donations to support individuals and institutions in Asanteman.
This special “Otumfuo Silver Jubilee Day of Education” event held on Wednesday (17 April) highlighted the foundation’s commitment to quality education, healthcare, water and sanitation, entrepreneurship and culture and heritage initiatives.
Nana Prof Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II, chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Foundation, emphasized the Asantehene’s dedication to uplifting Ghanaian children through education, skills training, and entrepreneurship. He called upon all stakeholders to continue supporting the foundation’s operations and the King’s agenda.
“In a nutshell, we have a diversity of beneficiaries in education, water and sanitation, culture and heritage and all this are under the auspices of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II foundation and as we are enjoying the silver jubilee, we want to remind Ghanaians of what the king has done in terms of capacity building, entrepreneurship, education. The King’s social development agenda is incredible, and an example is the commissioning of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II‘s Jubilee Hall days back. He is strongly appealing to all and sundry to also support the Heal Komfo Anokye project,’ he remarked.
Abena Kessewa Kwaffo, a 13-year-old pupil at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Basic School groomed by the Foundation for The Spelling Bee 2024, received GHC 135,000 ($10,000) after emerging as the Second Runner Up in the National Contest. She will compete internationally in the World Scripps spelling competition in the USA in May. Kessewaa pledged to make an impact and elevate Ghana’s reputation.
A group of students from The Prempeh College Robotic Team, who were sponsored by the Foundation last year to an international competition held at Michigan, United States, also made an appearance at Otumfuo Osei Tutu Hiahene’s palace by presenting the trophy they won to the Foundation Chair.
They received a cheque of GHC25,000.00 as their sponsorship to take care of the team’s living expenses during their stay in Michigan to participate in 2024 competition next month.
Emmanuel Ekow Kwaku Peprah and John Boateng, members of the Prempeh college robotics team advised other students to be diligent in their studies, especially attaining greater heights in the field of technology.
Other beneficiaries also graced the Otumfuo Silver Jubilee Education Day. The Otumfuo Recipient for Higher Learning, made up of Scholars in various tertiary institutions also benefited from a sponsorship of GHC100,000 for their education. Present with them were few personalities who had scholarship from Otumfuo Education Fund in the past.
Lordina Adwoa Serwaa Agyapong, a beneficiary and the winner of the second edition of the Otumfuo Community Reading Challenge urged students at the junior high schools to take part in the contest as it served as a channel for empowerment of young ones.
The gathering also brought ladies that had been trained in male-dominated trades under the World University Service of Canada and in collaboration with Otumfuo Foundation under the “Invest in Her” Project.
These ladies benefited from Otumfuo Foundation in the form of weekly stipends amounting to GHC54,000 during their training as Electricians, Heavy Machine Operation, Auto Electrician and Computer Hardware & Networking.
All beneficiaries expressed deep gratitude to the King and the Foundation for their life-changing support.
Nana Prof. indicated that the much heralded Silver Jubilee of His Majesty that is showcasing his leadership which has global impact cannot be fully celebrated without touching on his social impact for providing quality Education, Health,Water and Sanitation, Entrepreneurship as well as on Culture and Heritage.
Otumfuo Hiahene made this revelation when Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation held an “Otumfuo Silver Jubilee Day of Education” as part of Asantehene’s Silver Jubilee Celebrations to make a total donation of Two Hundred and Sixty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS 260,000) to individuals and institutions towards improving quality education for the people of Asanteman.
The recipients include Abena Kessewa Kwaffo,a 13 – year old KNUST Junior High School School Student who the Foundation registered and groomed to compete in the ‘Spelling Bee’ 2024, received GHS 135,000.00 ($ 10,000). Abena emerged as the second Runner Up in the National Contest that has qualified her to compete at international level at United States of America in 2024.
The Prempeh College Robotic Team,who were sponsored by the Foundation last year to an international competition held at Michigan, United States, brought the trophy they won to the chair of the Foundation.
