The Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL) from last week Monday began a comprehensive advanced digital training courses for selected youth in the Ashanti Region.
The training programme which is a collaboration between the GDCL and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) is aimed at equipping the Ghanaian youth with the requisite skills in Information Technology and Digital skills.
Speaking to this reporter on behalf of the CEO, Hon Kwadwo Baah Agyemang at Afia Kobi Ampem Library, one of the Eight (8) centres in Ashanti for the training, Madam Ama Asante Akowuah, Finance Manager at the GDCL said her outfit was determined to bring training to the youth in every corner of the country.
“We have been to the Northern regions, Bono, Ahafo and Bono East regions with these training programmes and currently we are in the Ashanti Region where we have zoned it into eight (8) centres to ensure effectiveness”, the Finance Manager stated.
Details:
Madam Akowuah disclosed that the youth are recruited by the YEA for the training programmes.
She noted that the YEA Directors at the various districts and communities set out to assess persons they could enroll for the programme and recommend for same.
This, she intimated, has ensured that they get the right kind of persons who sometimes come with basic knowledge on IT for the digital advanced training.
“We have been able to get the youth with basic IT skills and so it becomes a bit easy for us to train them on the advanced courses in digital skills and we commend the YEA for doing a good job”, the finance manager noted.
Advice:
The Finance Manager advised the youth including students in the senior high schools to take lessons in IT seriously.
She noted that currently everything is done digitally and that those who apply themselves diligently to learn skills in same are bound to do well in life.
Feedback:
Madam Akowuah said the GDCL takes feedback from the trainees after each session.
This, she noted helps them to shape and tailor the subsequent training sessions to address challenges the trainees may be facing.
“We take feedback from the trainees after sessions and we work with the issues we find to make the subsequent training sessions better so that we can obtain optimum results and impact as we role out the programmes across Ghana “, Madam Akowuah stressed.
Communities:
Some of the communities and centers that are benefitting from the training in Ashanti are, New Edubiase, Mampong, Tafo, Mamponteng, Subin, Manhyia and others.
