Mid-Year Budget: GUTA wants government strengthen local currency
The Ghana Union of Traders (GUTA) has made a straightforward demand to the government ahead of the mid-year budget review along on the government to stabilize the local currency.
According to GUTA, they want the government to implement pragmatic measures that will maintain or reduce the current exchange rate.
The President of GUTA, Dr. Joseph Obeng, emphasized that stabilizing the exchange rate would solve a major problem for businesses.
In an interview with Osei Akoto Kanu on OTEC FM’s afternoon political show, Dwabrem, on Monday, Dr. Obeng noted that most businesses are struggling due to the high exchange rate.
He added that if the exchange rate is normalized, most businesses will have a firm ground to operate. The mid-year budget review is scheduled for July 23, 2024.
