One killed in chieftaincy dispute at Bawjiase

A violent confrontation at Awutu Bawjiase in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region has resulted in the death of one person.

The incident occurred around 10:45 PM when a group of armed individuals, believed to be land guards, invaded the Bawjiase chief’s palace.

The attack came ahead of the scheduled outdooring ceremony of the new chief, Nai Nana Kwaku Osardu (III), set to take place tomorrow.

According to police sources, some family members were gathered at the chief’s palace, preparing for the ceremony when the armed group stormed the location.

During the chaos, one man, believed to be in his 30s, was shot dead.

The Awutu Bawjiase community has been embroiled in a chieftaincy dispute for the past 25 years, which was recently resolved by the National House of Chiefs earlier this year.

The community had hoped that the National House of Chiefs’ ruling would bring an end to the longstanding dispute, making the violent turn of events particularly shocking.

The Bawjiase District Police Command is currently working to maintain peace and order in the area.

The body of the deceased has been transported to the Police Hospital by the Bawjiase Police for further examination.
