The Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly through its Department of Social Welfare and Community Development on Thursday disbursed a total of GHC 62, 340.00 to some persons with disabilities (PWDs).
The allocations were made to enable the PWDs pay some school and medical bills as well as use some as start-up capital for businesses they’ve learnt.
Most of the beneficiaries ahead of the disbursement had been trained to undertake some businesses and entrepreneurial skills.
Some of the items distributed to support the PWDs were sewing machines and deep freezers while others received sums of cash.
District Chief Executive (DCE):
Presenting some of the items to the PWDs, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afigya Kwabre South, Hon Christian Adu-Poku urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items and cash.
He noted that how well they use the resources would ultimately benefit themselves, families and the larger society.
The DCE charged the beneficiaries to make a difference with the support they’ve received.
“I encourage you to make good use of the resources and disbursements you’ve received today so as to encourage government to continue to provide same to support other PWDs in the country”, Hon Adu-Poku stated.
Unit Head Head:
The Unit head for Community Development, Mr. Godfred Amo Atta-Effa, who represented the Head of Department, admonished beneficiaries to use what they had received to generate income.
How best they used the funds and items, he noted would help them to have sustainable sources of livelihoods for themselves.
Additional Information:
As part of the programme, the Child Protection Team of the department engaged with beneficiaries on some pressing social issues like child trafficking, rape, kidnapping.
Other matters discussed were the need for residents to conduct themselves very well ahead of the upcoming election.
