DMB Campaign Team in Ashanti with Members of the Professional Hairdressers Association in a pose after their engagement

Members of the Dr Bawumia Campaign Team in the Ashanti Region, on Friday interacted with the Professional Hair Dressers Association at the Center For National Culture, Kumasi.

The visit according to the team was to learn at first hand some of the challenges the association was grappling with and also think through measures to addressing  same.

Details:

Maame Mercy, Leader of the Association noted that the group is made up of persons who have their hairdressing shops and also have apprentices learning the trade under them.

Challenges:

She noted that many of the members were struggling to have adequate and appropriate equipment to train persons who had the desire to learn the skills of hairdressing.

Appeal:

The Leader asked for assistance from government to enable her members train more persons in hairdressing.

“Our members are committed people who are willing to train the youth and many who have to desire to learn the hairdressing trade”, she stated.

She however noted that they are handicapped in getting appropriate and adequate tools and equipment to do so.

“We would therefore be happy to have government’s assistance so that we can have appropriate equipment and other resources to train and perform our functions”, Maame Mercy appealed.

Ashanti Regional Women’s Organiser:

Addressing the Association Members, Nana Ama Ampomah, Ashanti Regional Women’s Organiser of the NPP and Member of the DMB Campaign Team said the NPP government through the Ghana Enterprise Agency (GEA) had made start-up equipment available to all associations that train people.

She promised to compile their names and ensure that they are resourced by the GEA.

“Aside the efforts we will put to ensure GEA supports to you, I promise to ensure that 100 persons in your association get the opportunity to have start up equipment in two week’s time by speaking to the Chief of Staff who sent us to bring you 20 start up items and artificial hair for your work”, Nana Ama Ampomah promised.

Director General of NSA:

On his part, Hon Osei Assibey Antwi, Director General of the National Service Authority (NSA) stated the NPP government had since its formation stages showed commitment to women empowerment.

He noted that from the establishment of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) where pregnant mothers were given free maternal care and delivery, the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) as well as Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme were all engineered towards cushioning women in Ghana.

“I urge you as a women group to know that the NPP is the party for you since everything about us is tailored to ensuring your empowerment. I therefore urge you to go out there and vote for Dr Bawumia on December 7 so that we can continue to resource, retool and empower you to play your roles as you did previously before the advent of the PNDC in government”, the Director General posited.
