Madam Patricia Appiagyei, MP for Asokwa and Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament
Deputy Majority Leader and MP fpr Asokwa, Madam Patricia Appiagyei has promised to provide vegetable farmers in Asokwa with coldroom facilities to help them reduce post-harvest losses that happen after crop seasons.
She said farmers continue to suffer severe post-harvest losses as production scales increase, adding that there is an urgent need to address post-harvest losses first in order to protect farmers’ production costs and increase food supply.
She made the statement at Asokwa Municipal Assembly’s 40th Farmer’s Day celebration in Atonsu.
She reiterated that the Asokwa constituency is currently the most vegetable growing hub in the Ashanti region and beyond, and that she will continue to support farmers in increasing productivity.
Municipal Chief Executive (MCE):
Chief Akwanuasa Gyimah, MCE for Asokwa urged chiefs to allocate more land, particularly wetlands, to farmers in Asokwa.
This, he noted would help to boost crop production.
The Nana Akufo-Addo/ Bawumia government, the MCE noted have with the introduction of planting for food and jobs increased food production.
“Government is determined to support farmers and so the initiatives it has so far introduced are aimed at attaining food security”, Chief Akwannuasah Gyimah stated.
Awards:
During the celebration, 17 farmers received awards in various farming categories from the Assembly.
The overall best farmer received a tricycle and other farm inputs.
The other awardees also received different farm inputs and other items to support their farming activities.
Meanwhile the overall best farmer for Asokwa 2024 J. Oppong Amoanin appealed to the government to reduce the price of farm inputs and also provide them with soft loans
