On Boxing Day, MTN Ghana officials distributed 600 specially packaged hampers to babies born on Christmas Day across selected hospitals in all 16 regions of the country. This initiative, which began in 2011, has now seen the delivery of approximately 3,500 hampers to children born on this special day.
At the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), 22 newborns received these hampers, which are filled with essential items for both mothers and their infants.
Mrs. Charity Darko, Corporate Services Advisor at MTN Northern Business District, emphasised the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility. “This year, we are distributing 600 hampers in 30 hospitals across Ghana, which is 100 more than last year.
Our aim is to bring joy to the mothers and babies born on Christmas Day,” she stated. In the Northern Sector alone, 260 hampers containing diapers, toys, baby clothes, and toiletries were delivered, showcasing MTN’s ongoing dedication to supporting new families.
Madam Gifty Serwaah Adu, Nurse Manager at KATH, expressed gratitude for MTN’s initiative, noting that the 22 babies born at the hospital on December 25 and 26 were delivered without complications or casualties.
She urged other corporate organisations to assist mothers struggling to cover their maternity costs. Beneficiaries like Dorothy Ameyaa and Madam Rosemary Appiah-Kubi shared their joy and expressing appreciation for the assistance provided, thanking the medical staff at KATH and MTN Ghana for the hampers, which provided essential items during a critical time in their lives.
