Mason, 25, jailed 10 years by Akropong Circuit Court for robbing student

A 25-year-old mason, Eric Boampong, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Akropong Circuit Court for stealing an iPhone 7 valued at 1200 cedis.

 Boampong attacked his victim, a student, at Abrafo Kokoben in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region, using scissors to threaten her before making off with the phone.

The court presided over by Her Ladisship Gloria Mensah Bonsu on Monday January January 14, 2025 sentence the accused after pleading guilty of the offence

According to Prosecutor Detective Inspector Alexander Agbekpornu, the victim forgot to lock her room on January 9, 2025, and Boampong took advantage of the situation to unlawfully enter the room.

Armed with scissors, screwdrivers, and spanners, Boampong threatened his victim before stealing the phone.

 The victim shouted for help, and residents quickly came to her aid, arresting Boampong and sending him to the police station.

Boampong was charged with robbery contrary to section 149 of the Criminal Offence Act 1960 (Act 29).

This incident highlights the importance of securing personal property and the severity of consequences for robbery offenses in Ghana.
