Assembly Members Urge President Mahama: Special Purpose Fund Trumps Monthly Allowance

Some Assembly Members in the Ashanti Region are calling on President John Dramani Mahama to set up a special purpose fund to support their activities, in addition to the proposed monthly allowances.

According to the Assembly Members, this fund will not only benefit them but also their constituents.

The Assembly Members believe that with this special fund, they can effectively address emergency problems in their electoral areas.

While they commend the President for proposing monthly allowances, they think the special purpose fund will be more effective in supporting their constituents.

President Mahama recently announced that the 2025 budget will include provisions for allowances for Assembly Members.

During his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 27, 2025, he emphasized the importance of recognizing and supporting local government representatives, who play a vital role in grassroots governance.

This announcement marks a significant policy shift aimed at improving the welfare of Assembly Members, who have long advocated for financial support to carry out their duties effectively.
