Akyamfoɔ Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu chairs new KNUST Governing Council

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi has officially inaugurated its newly constituted Governing Council, naming Akyamfoɔ Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu as Chairman.
The new Council brings together a broad cross-section of stakeholders, in line with national education regulations and the university’s statutes. Its members include representatives from academia, government, industry, civil society, students, and alumni—reflecting KNUST’s commitment to inclusive governance.
Key members of the Council include Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson; academic representatives Prof. Leonard Derkyi-Kwarteng, Prof. Abdul Samed Muntaka, and Gloria Naa Amanuah Appoh; and Convocation members Prof. Samuel Asare-Nkansah and Ing. Dr. Daniel Opoku.
Also on the Council are Prof. Dr. Eric Kwabena Kyei Abavare of the University Teachers Association, student representatives Mr. Kane Nana Francis and Mr. Gabriel Alexander Kpevu, and alumni representative Dr. Herman Yobo Addae.
Other members include Mr. Michael Ayuune representing the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU), Mr. Zachariah Suleman Yeboah from the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), and Dr. Frimpong Kaakyire Duku from the National Education Commission.
The Governing Council is expected to provide strategic direction and uphold KNUST’s mandate in advancing science, technology, and innovation in Ghana and beyond.
