Ashanti Region: Two killed, five arrested as rival gangs face off at Wiamoase

Two people have been confirmed dead and four others injured following violent clashes between youth from Wiamoase and Ntonso in the Ashanti Region.
The violence erupted during a funeral of a young lady in Wiamoase on Saturday (5 April), which attracted mourners from surrounding communities, including Ntonso.
Assemblyman for Wiamoase/Amangoase Electoral Area Williams Adamu said the violence erupted during a funeral in Wiamoase indicated that a disagreement between two factions—each led by individuals nicknamed “Hero” from their respective communities turned chaotic when members of the Ntonso group allegedly began firing pistols indiscriminately, leading to the shooting of two women.
“So, the Wiamoase youth, upon hearing of the shootings, rushed to the scene armed with cutlasses and other weapons. They confronted the Ntonso youth, and in the ensuing clash, two individuals from Ntonso lost their lives.
“According to the police commander, five suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident. As I speak, heavy police presence remains in the area to maintain order and prevent further violence”, Adamu stated.
OTEC News has also confirmed that four people, all females also survived with various injuries. They are being monitored at the hospital.
The clash has reignited concerns about youth violence, access to firearms, and the proliferation of vigilante groups in parts of Ghana.
Security experts have long warned of the dangers of unresolved communal tensions, particularly when combined with the easy availability of weapons.
Police say they are working closely with community leaders to maintain peace and have urged residents to volunteer information that may assist in ongoing investigations.
