Ghana’s Unemployment: Private sector should be driving job creation, not government – Development Consultant

Mr.Billy Bonsu, Development Consultant
Development Consultant and one of the successful entrepreneurs in Ghana, Billy Bonsu says the private sector should lead job creation in the country to help the economy.
He has therefore called on government to buoy up the private sector as the mainstay of economic growth.
According to Billy Bonsu, what the government needs to do is to equip the youth with practical skills so the youth can become potential employers rather than white collar job hunters.
In an interview on Otec FM’ morning show “Nyansapo”, hosted by Kwaku Owusu Boateng on Monday April 28, 2025, Mr. Billy Bonsu noted that, “the public sector should be productive to create the enabling environment for the private sector to thrive.
“The challenge of ramping up private investments in business opportunities in various sectors towards creation of jobs will need action on two fronts: Refreshing institutions and policies for channeling financing; and providing a stable, durable, and empowering ecosystem for private players to partner with government entities in the task of job-creation“ he indicated.
“Government will support private sectors to create jobs, rather than relying solely on government employment“, he added
He underscored the crucial role of entrepreneurship in tackling the unemployment crisis, urging confidence in the potential of entrepreneurship to propel economic expansion and mitigate joblessness.
