Prioritize completion of abandoned Central Market Project over decongestion – Kumasi drivers to KMA Mayor

Commercial drivers in Kumasi’s Central Business District have appealed to Mayor Richard Ofori Agyeman, popularly known as King Zuba, to focus on completing the second phase of the Kejetia redevelopment project instead of implementing a decongestion exercise.
The drivers believe that rushing into decongestion measures would force them to abandon their livelihoods.
The drivers explained that their roadside operations are due to the lack of proper lorry stations within the city.
They urged the mayor to provide designated stations before enforcing a ban on roadside loading.
“Get us a place to work first before asking us to leave pavements,” they appealed.
The mayor had announced plans to clear trotros parking along the roadside to load passengers, aiming to reduce growing traffic congestion.
However, the drivers in an interview with OTEC News Reporters Solomon Nimo a’d Gertrude Boahemaa on Tuesday April 15, 2025, argue that completing the Kejetia Phase Two Market would create additional space and help ease congestion challenges.
The drivers expressed hope that Mayor King Zuba would engage with stakeholders to address their concerns and find a lasting solution for both drivers and commuters in Kumasi.
