WATCH: 5 feared dead as mining pit collapses at Mpasatia
A tragic incident has occurred at an illegal mining site at Mpasatia in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region, where five persons are feared dead after a mining pit collapsed on them.
According to eyewitnesses, the five miners, whose identities have not been disclosed, were trapped in the pit for several hours on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
In an interview with OTEC News Reporter Jacob Agyenim Boateng, eyewitnesses revealed that two of the victims have been retrieved and confirmed dead at the Afari hospital.
The remaining three are still trapped in the pit, covered with heaps of sand, making it challenging for rescue teams to retrieve them.
Residents, along with security agencies, are working tirelessly to rescue the remaining three individuals as of the time of filing this report .
Meanwhile, the bodies of the two deceased miners have been deposited at the morgue, awaiting identification by family members.
