A/R: Passengers Complain of Transport Fare Hikes Despite 15% Reduction Directive

Some passengers in the Central Business District of Kumasi in the Ashanti have expressed frustration over commercial transport operators’ failure to implement a 15% reduction in transport fares, despite the directive from the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and other stakeholders.
The reduction, which was expected to take effect on Saturday, May 24, 2025, follows a marginal decrease in fuel prices.
However, passengers claim that drivers are still charging the old fares, defying the directives.
Speaking to OTEC News on Sunday May 25, 2025, the passengers called on authorities to ensure strict enforcement of the new prices
They noted that the current fares are already exorbitant and that the reduction would help alleviate the high cost of living.
The situation has left many passengers feeling frustrated and helpless, and they are demanding action from the authorities to address the issue.
