A Senior Physician Specialist and Nephrologist at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Patricia Kufuor, has emphasized that individuals with high or low blood pressure can effectively manage their condition through good lifestyle choices, potentially reducing their need for medication.

According to Dr. Kufuor, blood pressure conditions can be managed for a time with healthy lifestyle choices.

Speaking on the Kumasi-based OTEC 102.9 FM’s Health Show, Apomuden Ahotoso, on Sunday, the renowned Nephrologist urged individuals with high or low blood pressure to adopt good lifestyle habits to keep their condition under control.

“We can only put your medicine intake on hold only when individuals with high or low blood pressure decide to adopt a good lifestyle,” she told the host, Kate Appiah Boateng, Radio Nurse.

“If the person is ready to either stop or reduce smoking, alcohol intake, stop eating junk foods, eating late at night, then the pressure could be managed well without taking any medication.”

Dr. Kufuor shared a remarkable example of a patient who changed her lifestyle and has gone seven years without taking medication, despite being diagnosed with high blood pressure.

Although the patient was initially told she would eventually need medication, her commitment to a healthy lifestyle has so far prevented the need for it.

Dr. Patricia Kufuor emphasized the importance of regular blood pressure checks to prevent complications and sudden deaths.

She urged the public to prioritize their health by consistently going for wellness check-ups and adopting healthy habits to manage their blood pressure effectively.
