Ghana’s Flooding Problem Requires Hard Engineering Solutions – Dr. Simon Boateng

Dr. Simon Boateng, Renowned Environmentalist

Renowned Environmentalist Dr. Simon Boateng says it will take hard engineering for Ghana to solve its perennial flooding problem.

Major cities in Ghana have over the years recorded cases of flooding, leading to deaths and destruction of properties, with the recent one happening in the Greater Accra Region.

The Lecturer at AAMUSTED, in an interview with Dr. Cash on the Kumasi-based OTEC 102.9 FM’s afternoon political show “Dwabrem”,  on Tuesday, said all structures in waterways must be pulled down.

According to him, this is one of the sustainable ways to check the menace of flooding.

He noted that this will provide enough wetlands reserves for floods to sink down.

He added that until this is done, Ghana will continue to experience floods, which may be deadly.

He used the opportunity to appeal to chiefs, building contractors, and other major stakeholders in the construction industry to halt developing wetlands.
