KMA Presiding Member calls for joint effort to tackle exorbitant fares by commercial drivers

The Presiding Member for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Hon. Patrick Kwame Frimpong, has stated that it will take the entire security architecture in the Ashanti Region to halt commercial drivers from charging exorbitant fares.

Some commercial transport operators have resorted to charging unapproved fares during peak commuting hours

The drivers  have unilaterally increased transport fares from GH₵3-4 to GH₵10 for certain journeys.

The situation has sparked outrage among passengers, who are calling on authorities to intervene.

Speaking on OTEC 102.9 FM’s “Dwabrem” show, Hon. Frimpong urged the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to convene a meeting with all stakeholders to find lasting solutions to the issue.

He emphasized that a collaborative approach would be necessary to tackle the problem and called on drivers to desist from charging illegal fares to avoid punitive actions from authorities.
