A/R: Abuakwa-DKC residents face imminent cut-off from main township following bridge collapse

Residents of Abuakwa DKC in the Atwima Nwabiagya South District of the Ashanti Region are facing a dire situation as the bridge connecting them to Abuakwa Township has been severely damaged by recent heavy rains.
The bridge, constructed in 2024, is now deemed unsafe, forcing residents, including schoolchildren, to wade through the Asuoyeboah River to access their destinations.
The Current State
The bridge’s collapse has made living conditions unbearable for residents, with many expressing frustration and worry about their safety.
Students, in particular, are at risk, with one junior high student, Emmanuel Owusu, narrowly escaping drowning last week when attempting to cross the bridge.
Residents’ Concerns
Residents are concerned about the government’s seeming abandonment of their community.
“It looks as if the government has abandoned us,” lamented Kofi Broni, a visibly worried resident.
They are urging authorities to intervene and fix the bridge to prevent any further calamities.
Government Response
Officials from the Atwima Nwabigya Municipal Assembly have assured residents that efforts are underway to repair the bridge and restore safe movement between Abuakwa and DKC.
However, the main concrete bridge, completed over four years ago, remains a death trap as half of it has caved in, leaving residents feeling neglected.
Call to Action
The situation demands urgent attention from authorities to protect lives and livelihoods in the area.
Residents are hopeful that the government will take immediate action to fix the bridge and prevent any further disruptions to their daily lives.
