Lecturer urges Ghanaians to prioritize continuous education to thrive in the modern-day system

Dr Barnabas Addai Amanfo, Lecturer at AAMUSTED

Senior Lecturer at Akenten Appiah Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), Dr Barnabas Addai Amanfo, has urged Ghanaians to adopt a lifelong education in order to integrate existing formal and non-formal educational systems into a unified system.

He thinks that most Ghanaians choose to remain in their current educational system, arguing that since technology and education are always changing, it is essential for everyone to prioritize lifelong learning in order to thrive in the current system.

Dr Amanfo made these assertions during a discussion on OTEC FM’S Nyansapo morning show on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

Dr Addai Amanfo said through a lifelong learning system, learners would be shown how to teach themselves using media outside the school as well as the creation of opportunities for people to change programmes where necessary.

He gives instances of how Ghana’s drinking water went from being poorly filtered to having a greater level of filtration.

“Ghana uses to patronize ‘kyekyere water, we then moved to sachet water, again there was the introduction of bottle water and now dispensers. He said , “All these societal changes should tell people to upgrade their education and skills to keep up, Dr Amanfo referenced.”

Again, he referenced the days when teachers used a “set A” certificate as a qualification, adding that in the current system, you need a degree to be eligible to teach.

In order to survive, he advised Ghanaians to adopt the inventive, creative, and daring way of life.
