A senior lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), Dr. Solomon Forkuo-Kwarteng, has called on the government to provide nurses with better conditions of service, emphasizing that patriotism without reward is slavery.

According to Dr. Forkuo-Kwarteng who is  also the Head of Entrepreneurship Village and Incubation Centre at KsTU, asking nurses to work without proper remuneration will affect productivity in the health sector.

Speaking on OTEC 102.9 FM’s morning show Nyansapo, on Thursday June 12, 2025 hosted by Kwaku Owusu Boateng , aka KOA, the  Entrepreneurship  Expert stressed that nurses should be fairly rewarded for their hard work and dedication.

He emphasized that the government has no excuse but to ensure nurses are well-motivated to work towards a healthy country.

Dr. Forkuo-Kwarteng called on successive governments to place value on healthcare professionals’ services in Ghana.

His comment comes after nurses in the country declared a industrial action.

The ongoing nurses’ strike, aimed at pressing the government to address grievances including improved working conditions and better pay, has caused inconvenience to patients and healthcare services.

The Ghana Nurses and Midwives Association remains firm in its resolve to see through the industrial action until demands are met.

The situation remains tense, with the government’s response uncertain.
