“Without Ashanti, I wouldn’t be President” – Nana Akufo-Addo’s emotional thanks to Otumfuo and Asanteman

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has publicly conveyed his heartfelt appreciation to His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the people of the Ashanti Region for their steadfast support throughout his political journey.

During a courtesy visit by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to Nana Akufo-Addo’s private residence in Nima, Accra, the former president acknowledged the pivotal role the Ashanti Region played in his rise to the presidency.

He emphasized that without the backing of the Ashanti people, his political success would not have been possible.

“Otumfuo, I stand here on your behalf to extend my sincere thanks to Asanteman for their unwavering support of our party,” Nana Akufo-Addo remarked.

“This support is not a recent phenomenon; it has been consistent through the ages. If Asanteman were not there, our party would not be where it is today, this is a truth we all acknowledge,” he spoke in twi a local dialect.

He further expressed his personal gratitude, noting that the Ashanti Region’s loyalty was instrumental in shaping his political career.

“Personally, if it were not for Asanteman, I would not have had the opportunity to become the President of Ghana,” he stated.

“So, Otumfuo, on your behalf, I thank Asanteman for their enduring support,” he stated with pride and dignity.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s visit to Nana Akufo-Addo’s residence was seen as a reaffirmation of the strong ties between the Ashanti monarchy and the former president, symbolizing unity and mutual respect.
