Kumasi drivers lament fuel price hikes; blame GH¢1 Energy Sector Levy

Drivers in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region are feeling the pinch after the implementation of the GH¢1 “Energy Sector Levy,” which has led to a surge in fuel prices at the pumps.
According to the drivers, some fuel stations have hiked prices from GH¢12.07 to GH¢12.88 per liter, leaving them grappling with the increased cost.
In an interview with OTEC News’ reporters Maame Akosuah Gyamfuaa Sunday and Esther Ackom, drivers expressed their frustration, stating that the Levy is making life harder for those who rely on fuel daily to make a living.
They emphasized that the levy won’t help them in any way, but rather exacerbate their struggles.
Despite the rise in fuel prices, the drivers revealed that they have not yet adjusted transport fares.
They are waiting for official directives from the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) before taking any action.
This cautious approach suggests that drivers are seeking guidance on how to navigate the increased costs.
The drivers’ concerns highlight the ripple effects of the Dumsor Levy on the transport sector.
As fuel prices continue to climb, drivers are worried about the impact on their livelihoods. With many relying on daily earnings to support themselves and their families, the increased cost of fuel is a significant burden.
The situation has left drivers in a state of uncertainty, wondering how they will absorb the additional costs.
