Kumasi: President Mahama Pledges Completion of Krofrom Market by 2026

President John Dramani Mahama has promised to complete the long-abandoned Krofrom Market project by the end of 2026, bringing renewed hope to market women and traders in the Ashanti Region.

The President made this pledge during his engagement with some traders in Kumasi as part of his “Thank You Tour” in the Ashanti Region, which began on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

Traders in the Ashanti Region have intensified calls for the completion of the long-abandoned Kumasi Krofrom Market.

The once-promising commercial complex, situated in a prominent Kumasi suburb, has deteriorated into a haven for rodents and illicit activities. Overgrown with weeds, the site has become a hotspot for criminal behavior, both day and night.

Initiated in 2007 under former President John Agyekum Kuffuor’s administration, the multi-million-dollar project has stalled primarily due to funding shortfalls. President Mahama noted that the market has been abandoned for a long time, citing his government’s commitment to ensuring its completion.

He further indicated that the completion of the market will help ease congestion in the Kumasi district, particularly in areas like Adum and Kejetia.

President Mahama reiterated his promise to complete the market to enhance trade in the region.

Adwenehemaa Nana Sakina, the Market Queen, backs Mahama’s promise, praising his commitment to completing stalled projects and supporting market women. She expressed confidence that only President Mahama can bring the Krofrom Market project to fruition.
