Otumfuo picks Juabenhene to succeed Mamponghene at National House of Chiefs

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has reaffirmed the appointment of Nana Otuo Siriboe II, the Juabenhene, as one of the Ashanti Region’s representatives to the National House of Chiefs.
The announcement was made during the first general meeting of the Ashanti Regional House of Chiefs held in Kumasi on 17 July 2025, with Otumfuo presiding.
The Juabenhene replaces the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, the Asante Mamponghene, on the national body.
“I have decided to appoint Juabenhene in the stead of Asante Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, at the National House of Chiefs. He will join the four other representatives,” the Asantehene told the assembled chiefs.
Otumfuo explained that his decision was influenced by Nana Otuo Siriboe’s extensive experience and institutional knowledge.
“Otuo Siriboe was first elected to the National House in 1975. That was fifty years ago, so I decided he will return,” he noted.
A respected traditional leader and statesman, Nana Otuo Siriboe II brings decades of chieftaincy experience, having served in multiple national and regional roles over the years.
His return is seen as part of broader efforts to strengthen the Ashanti Region’s voice in national traditional governance.
He joins four other Ashanti Region representatives at the National House of Chiefs: Nana Effah-Appenteng, Bompatahene; Barima Sarfo Tweneboah Kodua, Kumawuhene; Baffour Owusu Bediako II, Domeabrahene; and Nana Okyere Kusi Aduako II, Essumegyahene.
The Asantehene urged the five-member team to work together in unity and purpose to advocate for the welfare of Ghanaians at the national level.
The National House of Chiefs serves as Ghana’s highest traditional authority, advising on matters of chieftaincy, custom, and national cohesion.
The inclusion of a seasoned voice like the Juabenhene is expected to enrich its deliberations at a time of renewed focus on the relevance of traditional leadership in modern governance.
