Photos: Parliament congratulates Black Queens on WAFCON Bronze medal win

Parliament has officially congratulated Ghana’s senior women’s national football team, the Black Queens, for securing a bronze medal at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The commendation came during a visit by the team to Parliament on Tuesday, July 29, where they were warmly received by Members of Parliament following their return from Morocco.

The Black Queens clinched third place in the tournament after a penalty shootout victory over South Africa, marking their best finish at the continental competition since 2016.

Their spirited performance and resilience earned widespread praise across the country.

The team arrived in Ghana on Monday, July 28, and has since embarked on a series of celebratory activities, including a visit to the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum to pay homage.

Two key players, midfielder Grace Asantewaa and captain Portia Boakye, were named in the 2024 CAF Women’s AFCON Team of the Tournament, a testament to their outstanding performances throughout the competition.
