SSNIT holds Pensioners engagement, pledges Telemedicine for Pensioners to improve healthcare

The Director General of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Mr. Alfred Biney, has announced that his outfit will soon introduce a telemedicine channel for retirees to provide easy access to quality and affordable healthcare.

According to Mr. Biney, this move is necessary as most pensioners struggle to access healthcare in their old age.

“The essence of this move is to ensure that our members who may be in areas with less proximity to health facilities will get access to quality healthcare.”He said.

He noted SSNIT plans to roll out the telemedicine service in collaboration with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and Trust Hospital.

Mr. Biney disclosed this information during the SSNIT-organized Pensioners’ Engagement in the Ashanti Region on July 24, 2025.

The engagement provided a platform for pensioners to share ideas on ways SSNIT can improve its services.

Ahead of the engagement, SSNIT organized a free health screening for hundreds of pensioners who showed up for the event.

Beneficiaries were screened for various conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disorders, among others.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman for the Pensioners Association, Nana Adarkwa Tuffuor, commended SSNIT for their continuous support to members.

He hailed SSNIT for the timely payment of members’ monthly salaries and assured pensioners of continuous collaboration with SSNIT for effective service delivery.
