Ashanti Market Fires: Lack of fire hydrants impeding response efforts – Fire Commander

The Ashanti Regional Fire Commander, ACFO Peter Tetteh, has disclosed that the lack of available fire hydrants impeded efforts to curb the deadly fire outbreak at Anomanye.

According to him, firefighting officials had to trek long distances to get access to fire hydrants, delaying efforts to stop the fire after exhausting the water already in the fire tender.

The fire ravaged the Anomanye Market in the Suame Municipality of the Ashanti Region, destroying about 200 shops and leaving traders stranded.

The disaster saw wares and properties worth thousands of Ghana Cedis destroyed.

Investigations are currently ongoing to determine the cause of the outbreak, as stated by ACFO Tetteh in an interview with OTEC News.

The incident highlights the need for improved fire safety infrastructure in the region’s markets.

The lack of fire hydrants and inadequate access to water sources can have devastating consequences, as seen in the Anomanye Market fire.

The affected traders are now counting their losses and seeking support to rebuild their businesses.

The government and relevant authorities are expected to provide assistance to the traders and take measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
