The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has handed over over 1,000 seized water pumps from illegal mining sites to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for irrigation purposes.

According to Mamud Kabore, Spokesperson for the Minister of Lands , this initiative aims to combat illegal mining while supporting agriculture.

According to him, the Ministry obtained court authority through the Attorney General before distributing the seized pumps.

Speaking on the Kumasi based OTEC 102.9 FM’s afternoon political show Dwabrem on Friday, he noted this step ensures that the process is legally sound and avoids potential legal battles.

Furthermore, the Ministry plans to repurpose seized excavators for the District Road Improvement Program (DRIP) to enhance road infrastructure.

This move will not only tackle illegal mining but also contribute to the development of the country’s road network.
