Mahama visits families of Air Force servicemen killed in helicopter crash

President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, August 12, visited the families of three Ghana Air Force servicemen who perished in the August 6 military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

The late Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah were among the eight people who lost their lives in the tragic incident.

The crash also claimed the lives of high-profile government officials, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, and NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong.

Ghanaians paid their final respects to Dr. Murtala Muhammed and Muniru Mohammed on Sunday, August 10, in solemn ceremonies that drew large crowds. President Mahama has scheduled a state funeral for all eight victims on Friday, August 15, at the Black Star Square.

As part of the state funeral, the President will launch an education fund to support the children of the deceased. He said the initiative aims to ensure that the dependents of those who lost their lives in service to the nation are allowed to pursue their education without financial barriers.
President Mahama used the occasion to call on citizens to transform their grief into a renewed commitment to building the country, emphasising that the sacrifice of the fallen must inspire unity and national progress.
