The bodies of Ghana’s late Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six other individuals have been retrieved following a coordinated search operation in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

The recovery effort, led by national security operatives and emergency responders, followed the tragic military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, which claimed the lives of all eight passengers on board.

Among the deceased are:
- Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate
- Samuel Sarpong, National First Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala,
- Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu,
- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, all of the Ghana Armed Forces
According to preliminary information, the victims were aboard a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter en route to Obuasi when the aircraft suddenly went off radar. This triggered an immediate search and rescue operation involving military and national security teams.
Hours after the aircraft was reported missing, the wreckage was located deep within a forested area of the Adansi Akrofuom District. The Presidency later confirmed the fatalities.
In response to the national tragedy, the Government of Ghana has ordered all national flags to be flown at half-mast in honour of the deceased.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
